What should farmers pay attention to in the winter?
from ECO WATER China
Some farmers will sell all of the fish and begin a new breeding plan the following spring, while others will keep the fish in the pond until New Year's Eve when there is a high demand for the sale!
For those farmers who chose to sell the fish and clean the pond, they do not have to worry about anything. But for those who kept the fish, those farmers are always concerned. I am concerned because the farm is worth a year of hard work and real money, and the smallest mistake could cost a great loss!
Although the fish in the pond do not require as many feeds during the winter as they do during the summer, the issue of sufficient dissolved oxygen always threatens the fish's survival and health. First, during the fall and winter, when the water is warmer, fish tend to hide at the bottom of the water. The bottom water body is already low in dissolved oxygen; it is likely to cause a large number of fish deaths!
Secondly, because the water temperature at the bottom is higher than the surface, dissolved oxygen at the surface does not sink to the bottom.
Given the existence of the above two objective factors, every autumn and winter, there are fish storage pond farmers and friends who accept the test of nature on their breeding technology, especially on the daily management of oxygenation!
So, under the special temperature and environment of autumn and winter, there are several ways to increase oxygen in aquaculture.
1. Water injection aeration method. In addition to maintaining the normal height of the water level and maintaining a constant temperature, fish ponds should be injected with new water regularly during the winter, which can improve the quality of the fish's living environment and increase the bottom layer of dissolved oxygen. Generally, new water should be injected once every 20 days.
2. The aeration method is a method of aerating pool water by pumping air pressure into an aeration pipe set in the pool's bottom, exposing a small bubble to the water, and improving the air and bottom water contact area to increase the oxygen content at the pool's bottom.
3. Recirculating water Oxygenation is about to overwinter a pond; pool water can be pumped back again. This method not only oxygenates the pond water but also removes harmful gases from the pond. It should be noted that the bottom of the pool cannot be lifted when pumping water.
4. Plant the oxygenation method before winter, directly into a fish pond rich in phytoplankton fertilizer; the amount of water injected cannot exceed one-fifth of the total pond water. This oxygenation uses phytoplankton for photosynthesis, which releases oxygen to replenish the pool with dissolved oxygen.
However, the sun is weaker in autumn and winter than it is throughout the year. Coupled with the low temperature, the photosynthesis of plants will be limited, and the efficiency of this way of oxygenation will be greatly reduced!
5. Chemical oxygenation method This method, which is to use calcium peroxide or H₂O₂ and other chemical oxygenation agents to put into the water to have a chemical reaction to increase the dissolved oxygen in the water, is a rapid and efficient oxygenation method.
It should be noted that 10–20 mg/l of calcium peroxide and H₂O₂ can increase oxygen by 1-2 mg/l per cubic meter of water. The amount should not be too much, so as not to endanger the safety and health of fish.
While traditional fish-pond farmers worry about increasing oxygen for the winter, those who choose RAS remain calm. What we can rely on is that, because RAS is a closed breeding environment, the aeration fan provides sufficient oxygen continuously during the aeration, so there is no need to worry about the problem of hypoxia in fish.
In addition, because of a variety of advanced water quality monitoring equipment that can at any time provide feedback on dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen, PH value, and other parameters of the changing situation, aquaculture can achieve intelligent management, making many problems in operation much easier!
