What kind of device is a protein skimmer? How does it work? Let's have a good discussion today!
A protein skimmer is a type of water treatment equipment that uses the air flotation separation principle to remove organic solid suspended particles from water in RAS equipment.
Its working principle is to create a large number of small bubbles in the reaction barrel of the protein skimmer through a jet air intake and use the surface tension of the bubble gas to absorb the tiny solid suspended matter in the water, viscous colloids, and other substances.
When bubbles rise under buoyancy, they will also absorb and take away organic solid particle impurities in the water and gather at the top of the protein skimmer to form high-concentration dirty foam. After these bubbles carry organic impurities through the sewage pipe, they will form high-concentration sewage and be discharged under the defoaming of an atomizing nozzle, so as to achieve the effect of solid-liquid separation.
In practice, a protein skimmer can easily separate 10-80 micron impurities in water, such as feed residue, fish feces, and other organic impurities after decomposition, to avoid further organic waste decomposition, prevent ammonia nitrogen or nitrite accumulation, and harm the healthy growth of fish!
