Hazards of suspended solids and solutions
from ECO WATER China
What is the definition of suspended matter in water? To put it bluntly, some impurities are in the form of tiny particles! Clear water means less suspended solids, which do not affect the growth of fish. If the water quality is poor, fish living in it for a long time will hinder the filtration of fish gills and skin breathing, reduce the dissolved oxygen in the water, and harm the health of the fish! Therefore, in the process of factory aquaculture, it is very necessary to remove the suspended matter in the aquaculture water in time!
So where did all this suspended matter come from? And how does it accumulate in water? Because factory aquaculture is a completely closed water cycle, suspended solids in the water will not be as "unknown" as in outdoor ponds. If the water in the aquaculture ponds is found to be increasingly turbid, it can only be explained for two reasons:
1. The fish did not eat the feed completely; it dissolved in the water.
2. Feces can also make the water cloudy.
So, what ideas and methods have appeared in the technology of suspended matter treatment? What kind of technology is used now? Let's take our time.
1. Fixing the filter bed This fixed filter bed is generally composed of pebbles, coarse sand, and fine sand in three layers of filtration. It is a relatively original filtration method, and the filtration effect is not bad; it can filter about 90% of the suspended particles in aquaculture water! Of course, as an initial filtration technology, the disadvantages of this filter bed are its large size, low efficiency, and difficult operation during backwash.
2. A floating filter using a small proportion of the packing filter ball as the filtration medium in the reaction tank culture microbial flora can filter 100% of the particles with a diameter of 30 microns or more; at the same time, 79% of the suspended impurities below 30 microns can be filtered.
3. The roller microfilter is more commonly seen on the filter screen. The use of a high-precision screen mesh of 60 microns can filter 36%–67% of suspended matter. There is still much room for improvement in the physical filtration structure design, filter area, size, and backwash water consumption design!
4. Natural sedimentation tank A well-designed sedimentation tank can remove 59%–90% of large particles of suspended matter. For the treatment of a sedimentation tank, the overcurrent flow rate should be lower than 4 m3/min, and the appropriate flow rate is 1 m3/min. The flow per unit area is 1.0–2.7 m3/m2h.
5. Bubble separator The bubble separator is a protein separator. The principle is that, through the bubble generator, the bubbles are continuously released in the water so that the bubbles form a filter layer like a screen, and the tension on the surface of the bubbles is used to absorb the suspended matter in the water. The diameter of these tiny bubbles is 10–100 microns, which can effectively remove suspended solids in aquaculture water, and the smaller the bubbles, the higher the efficiency!
Factory fish with a feed coefficient of 0.9-1.0 produces 150-200 g of suspended matter for every 1 kg of fish body weight, according to data! At this ratio, as a recycled aquaculture water body, the accumulation of suspended matter in the water is very fast.5.
64% of the suspended solids in cyclically flowing aquaculture water are particles smaller than 30 mm! As a result, removing suspended matter below 30 m in factory aquaculture systems has been prioritized!
